Zamfara Governor asks FG to declare State of emergency in Northern Nigeria

Zamfara State Governor, Bello Mohammed, is asking the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency on security in the northern part of Nigeria.

The Governor said this while playing host to the Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIGP Ali Janga, at the Government House, Gusau, the state capital.

He lamented that if the bandits could have the courage to invade the Nigerian Defence Academy, NDA, Kaduna, killing two military personnel, and abducted senior officers, that will potently grave danger for the country’s security architecture.

Governor Mohammed hinted that there are several communities in the state that are inaccessible due to the activities of bandits, hence the need for the security operatives to eliminate the criminals in those places and make them more secure for citizens.

He noted that his administration is committed to ensuring security and peace so that residents can sleep with their two eyes closed but unfortunately, some miscreants are bent on inflicting pain on innocent citizens and are, therefore, sabotaging the efforts of the government.

The Governor charged the security agencies to deal ruthlessly with the recalcitrant bandits and other criminals to allow peace to reign in Zamfara State.

He disclosed that he has approved the sum of 17 million Naira for police operation in the state to enable the police to rid the state of bandits.

Governor Mohammed had announced that the 83 persons abducted by suspected bandits recently at Rini community in Bakura Local Government Area of the state have been released through the peace initiative with the bandits.
