The leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, on Wednesday called on government at both state and federal levels to be more proactive and sincere with citizens in handling the wanton killings of Christians in Plateau State.

Rev. Fr. Polycarp Gana, CAN Coordinator in Jos North disclosed this in a statement following the Tuesday night attack and killing of over 30 citizens in the Yalwan Zangam Community in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The CAN, while condemning the attack blamed the development on alleging provocative statements by some clerics who according to him should be preaching understanding and solidarity amongst citizens.

According to Fr. Polycarp Gana, the CAN demanded from the government to know clearly, if Christians are second-class citizens or if being Christian and preaching peace and togetherness is a crime.

The Association while commiserating with those who have lost their loved ones during the attack, called on Christians to remain vigilant and prayerful but never again allow their communities and families to be killed like flies.
