vc orders close down of schools over protests

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Benin, Prof. Lilian Salami has ordered for the immediate closure of the varsity following the upheaval surrounding a recent fee for late registration. The situation which began as a school protest has spread across the Benin Community.

Most recently, the students blocked the Benin-Lagos Expressway for an estimated four hours in protest disrupting the day-to-day activities of residents in the state. As of today, all students are expected to vacate the university premises with immediate effect.

The students are protesting an additional fee of 20,000 to their existing fee as well as the 10,000 which the school authorities have demanded students pay for late registration, however, students claim the portal has a high downtime and students are likely to default by no fault of theirs.

They also request a reversal in the hike in school fees on grounds of the recent economic crisis in the state.
