A task force to enforce the law prohibiting open rearing of livestock and the establishment of ranches is to be established in Akwa Ibom State of Nigeria.

Governor Udom Emmanuel made this known when he signed the bill on prohibition of Open Grazing into law at the Government House in Uyo after its passage by the State House of Assembly.

On Tuesday, September 14, 2021, the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly passed the Anti-Open Grazing Bill and with Governor Emmanuel giving his assent, it is now a law in the state.

The Governor said that the enforcement will be robust and advised owners of livestock to be guided as there are penalties.

He lamented the effects of open grazing and stated that livestock rearing should not affect others’ rights.

Akwa Ibom State has now joined the league of states that have passed the Anti-Open Grazing Bill into law.
