Ondo school bus hijack: Police Say It Is A Case Of Robbery, Not Abduction

The Ondo State Command of the Nigerian Police has described the hijack of a private school bus by some gunmen in Oba-Ile, Akure North Local Government Area of the state, as a pure case of robbery and not banditry, as being witnessed in some parts of the country.

While the school attendant who was abducted in the bus has since regained freedom, the state Commissioner of Police, Bolaji Salami, assured residents of adequate security.

On Thursday, at about 6:45 in the morning, there was palpable tension in Oba-Ile, Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, when some armed men hijacked a private school bus.

The incident created panic within the state capital.

While no student was kidnapped, the school bus was about to commence picking up pupils for the day’s academic activities, before the incident occurred.

The school attendant, who was abducted with the bus, was later released by the gunmen in the Ilara-Mokin axis of the state.

Meanwhile, the state Police Commissioner assured residents of the state of adequate security and promised that the perpetrators would soon be arrested.

It is the hope of residents that security will be beefed up around schools in the state.
