Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, says the Federal Government is not sincere with its intentions on the brewing issue of financial autonomy for Nigeria’s judiciary.

Governor Wike, who bared his mind at the Commissioning of residences for judges of the National Industrial Court, said that the Federal Government is merely trying to divert attention by pitching the judicial workers against State Governments.

The event was the commissioning of residences built by his administration for judges of the National Industrial Court in Port Harcourt.

But Governor Wike also had other issues on his mind. Chief among them is the raging controversy over financial autonomy for the judiciary.

For several weeks now, judicial workers under the umbrella of the Judicial Staff Union of Nigeria, JUSUN, have been on an indefinite strike to demand the enforcement of constitutional autonomy to the judiciary at the Federal and State levels.

The Governor said there is more to their action, hinting that his administration is already implementing the autonomy for the judiciary.

He also announced that his administration would start implementing the ‘no work, no policy’

The Rivers State Governor further warned against any deduction from the state’s accounts saying that the state is not in any way bound by the decisions of the Presidential Implementation Committee or any other body.
