SERAP drags FG over Twitter Ban

SERAP alongside 176 human rights activists have filed a lawsuit against Nigeria at the Economic Community of West African States Community of Justice in Abuja seeking an injunction against the current #TwitterBan making rounds on social media.

The ban which has given rise to the #KeepItOn and #NigeriaTwitterBan hashtags on social media aims at intimidating and preventing Nigerians from using the platform to access and expose the impunity of the Federal Government, the statement read.

The ban which went into effect on the 4th of this month was described as the final proof of the shrinking civil space in Nigeria and a move by the Federal Government to stifle contrarian opinions by SERAP’s Deputy Director, Kolawole Oludare.

Other countries that have banned the microblogging platform include China, North Korea, and Iran.
