Myanmar Protesters – ‘We will Never Surrender’

Amidst the rising bloodshed and more recent crackdown on internet services in Myanmar, pro-democracy protesters have remained adamant against the military and refuse to be cowed.

Since the hostile takeover of AungSan Suu Kyi, the democratically elected leader on the 1st of February, protests have been the order of the day. The citizens have called for the democratic regime to be restored while the military have attacked the citizens with live ammunitions sending hundreds to an early grave.

Despite the internet cut off, citizens have restrategized on how to keep the momentum in their quest of justice by using mobile phones and ensuring the protests go on. Also the radio and apps not dependent on wireless have been encouraged.

The EU and the United States have also cut off trading and imposed heavy sanctions on the country until normalcy is restored. Meanwhile the Junta marked its 75th Armed Forces Remembrance Day in the midst of the chaos, sending over 100 people to their graves in one day

Aung San Suu Kyi as well as members of the National League for Democracy, who have been  unceremoniously detained and charged with corruption is now facing a new array of charges enshrined within the official secrets law, a major upgrade from the initial menial ones may see her serving up to 14 years in jail if found guilty.

The demonstrations have continued to intensify as pro-democracy groups are beginning to fight back. 20 soldiers were killed and 4 military trucks have been destroyed after a clash with the Kachin Independence Army.

Myanmar citizens have also fled across the border into Thailand. Thailand is calleig for aend to the violence due to the increasing casualties.

The protesters have claimed that there will be no surrendering until Myanmar’s elected leader is released and restored.
