Katsina NDLEA arrests 258 suspects, seizes 370.5 Kilograms of drugs

As the world marks the United Nations International Day Against Drug Abuse and Trafficking, the Katsina State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, says it has from January to date, arrested a total of 258 suspects.

The Commander of the agency in the state, Sule Momodu, said this while giving his Command’s scorecard.

He also said a total of 370.5 kilograms of illicit drugs were seized during the period under review.

The United Nations Day Against Drug Abuse and Trafficking was climaxed in Katsina State with the NDLEA visiting 32 schools.

At the various schools, pupils, students, and teachers were admonished on the dangers of drug abuse in line with the theme of the day; Share the Facts, Save Lives.

The Commander of the agency used the event to read his Command’s scorecard of the number of arrests and seizures made from January to date.

According to him, a total of 258 suspects, made up of 257 males,1 female, and 30 students were arrested, with 20 suspects convicted to various jail terms, while a total of 370.51 Kilograms of drugs were seized.

He also said with global best practices, the Command is giving serious emphasis to drug demand reduction by continually sensitizing the public and exposing the consequences of drug abuse and trafficking.

Governor Aminu Masari, represented by his Special Adviser on Drugs, Narcotics and Human Trafficking, Hamza Borodo, said the state government is committed to stamping out drug abuse, in collaboration with the state’s Command of the NDLEA.

Similarly, Katsina Chief Judge, Justice Musa Danladi, represented by Justice Abbas Bawale, called on parents to be watchful, and observe the change in behaviour of their children, pledging continuous support for the agency to keep winning the war against drug abuse in the state and ensure quick justice dispensation in cases brought before it.

The event was attended by several school children, representatives of security agencies, officers, and men of the Command, among others.
