Kagara Abduction: Senate tells Presidency to declare 'State of Emergency'

The Nigerian Senate on Wednesday reached a resolution calling on President Muhammadu Buhari to declare “State of Emergency” on security in the country.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the position of the upper legislative chamber
followed a Point of Order by Senator Sani Musa representing Niger East, on the Kidnap of school children in the early hours of Wednesday from Government Science Secondary school , Kagara , Niger State.

Narrating the attack, the lawmaker, said unknown gunmen suspected to be bandits stormed the school premises; killing the security guards on duty and abducting students.

The lawmaker said the exact number of school children kidnapped is yet to be ascertained.

Commenting on the motion , Senator Bima representing Niger South , said the government seems overwhelmed by the security situation in the country.

The Senate called for “State of Emergency” came barely a week after it asked President Muhammadu Buhari to through the office of the National Security Adviser rejig the security architecture of the country.
