In view of the emerging security challenges of Nigeria’s food basket and the country at large, Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has signed a law to amend the community volunteer guard establishment law 2004.

Governor Ortom who signed the law at the Government House in Makurdi, the state capital, said the state’s community volunteer guard will support the conventional security to surmount the growing concerns of the state.

According to the Attorney General of the State, Michael Gusa, the amended law makes provision for the community volunteer guards also popularly as vigilantes to carry weapons permissible by the firearms act.

Governor Ortom expressed particular concern over the deteriorating security situation in the country which led to the recent abduction of six Benue youths in the north.

A bold step the Chief Executive believes would effectively tackle the growing insecurity problems in state.
