Suspected herdsmen kill 4 in Plateau on Valentine's Day

About 140 families of Dasso community of Bare State Development Area in Numan Local Government Area of Adamawa State have been rendered homeless following Saturday’s attack on its village by gunmen suspected to be herdsmen.

The victims are therefore calling on relevant authorities to come to their aide because all their houses have been burnt down and their farm produce destroyed by the invading herdsmen.

According to them, their lives are still in danger as their attackers promised to return for another round of attack on the bare community where those who escaped are sheltered.

The road leading to Dasso community, the village attacked by suspected herdsmen looks quiet . It is a farming community located a stone throw from River Gongola which provides opportunity for the people to engage in irrigation farming.

The village is deserted and what can be seen are houses set ablaze by the attackers. A similar attack was unleashed on Dasso in June last year and the people started returning in December to rebuild their lives.

The Catholic Mission School was not spared as the official residence of the reverend father was set ablaze.

The people said they are left with no option but to defend themselves with bows and arrows.

While the women have been taken to safer grounds, the people are appealing to government to come to their aide by providing food and some sort of shelters for the vulnerable.

Some of the students at the Catholic Pastoral School, who escaped the attack, have been evacuated to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Numan.
Dasso community has been a target of attacks by the herdsmen since last year where about 10 persons were killed and the community destroyed.

In the recent attack few people sustained gunshot wounds but no death was recorded.
