The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Kwara State has signed a pact with traditional and political leaders from the northern part of the state agreeing to a shift of power to the north by 2023.

This implies that the party’s standard bearer will only spend one term if the party wins the forthcoming election.

The Director General of the Campaign Organization of the party, Professor Suleiman Abubakar, announced this while briefing journalists on the outcome of the meeting held with stakeholders from the zone.

Abubakar, who read the communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, indicated that traditional rulers from the North as well as the Emir of Ilorin, Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, witnessed and endorsed the Memorandum of Understanding.

He noted that as a result of the need to ensure equal representation in government and the need to assuage feelings of neglect, the posts of Speaker and Secretary to the State Government will be zoned to the North Senatorial District if the PDP wins.

It would be recalled that the Kwara North Senatorial District had clamoured for the 2019 governorship ticket as Kwara Central and South have governed the state for 20 years.
