Unknown gunmen have struck another police station in Ebonyi state, killing a police officer while another is said to be receiving treatment from injuries sustained in the attack.

The incident occurred in Abaomege which is in Onicha Local Government Area of the State.

Ebonyi State Commissioner for Internal Security and Border Peace and Conflict Resolution, Stanley Okoro-Emegha, confirmed the attack saying it happened Saturday night.

Locals living in the area said the gunmen attacked the station with dangerous arms but were
not totally successful as they failed to gain full access into the station.

The Commissioner of Police, Garba Aliya, and the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO DSP Loveth Odah, did not immediately respond to reporters who inquire on the matter.

Several police stations and divisions in Ebonyi State and other states in the South East have come under attacks in recent times leading to deaths and destruction of property.
