About 10 persons including policemen have reportedly been killed by gunmen who invaded Isu and Onicha-Igboeze communities, in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, South East Nigeria on Thursday.

Sources said that two policemen were killed in Isu, while other victims including two lawyers were shut dead in Onicha-Igboeze, in the invasion which lasted several hours.

It was learnt that the two lawyers were passing with a vehicle and ran into the gunmen who operated on a Lexus Jeep.

The attack came less than 24 hours the State Governor, Dave Umahi, spoke tough on killings in the state, threatening to deal decisively with parents of the hoodlums attacking innocent persons under the guise of agitations.

Also recall that about seven travellers were burnt alive inside a vehicle they were travelling with on the Onicha-Igboeze road two months ago by a yet-to-be-identified gunmen.

So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the series of attacks in Ebonyi State, though Governor Umahi had severally accused the proscribed separatist agitation group, Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.

When contacted, the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Loveth Odah, confirmed the latest incident, but said details of the attack were still sketchy.

She, however, noted that the State Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Garba, has dispatched a team of detectives to the area.
