If you haven’t caught the ‘Squid Game’ bug are you even on earth? The show touted by Netflix’s co-CEO, Ted Sarandos as likely one of Netflix’s biggest shows ever took over 10 years in the making!

Squid Games creator, Hwang Dong-hyuk shared that the first inspiration for the series came to him in 2008 but shelved the idea because of how far fetched it seemed from reality. Read his statements below:

“I thought players fighting like warriors using the shapes, which form a ring, would demonstrate the irony of it being a children’s game, as well as the players’ desperation.”

“After about 12 years, the world has changed into a place where such peculiar, violent survival stories are actually welcomed,” he said.

“People commented on how the series is relevant to real life. Sadly, the world has changed in that direction. The series’ games that participants go crazy over align with people’s desires to hit the jackpot with things like cryptocurrency, real estate and stocks. So many people have been able to empathise with the story.”

The Netflix series an all-round winner is the muse for this year’s Halloween as the sale of vans and red/teal coloured tracksuits is topping the charts. It’s so high, even Netflix is selling custom shirts on its e-commerce store

It doesn’t end there, Hoyeon Jun who made her first debut as an actress has been snagged by Louis Vuitton as the brand’s newest global ambassador

“It is an honour to start my acting career with Louis Vuitton, the brand I have modelled for. I look forward to all the moments with Louis Vuitton as a global ambassador,” Jung said in a statement.
