Former Cross River State House of Assembly Speaker, Mike Ogar, is dead. Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Eteng Williams, confirmed to reporters, saying the former Speaker died in the early hours of Tuesday due to an undisclosed ailment.

Aged 73, Ogar who represented Bekwarra State Constituency in the Cross River State House of Assembly between 1999 and 2003, became the first speaker to emerge from the state parliament in the Fourth Republic.

The Speaker who spoke through his Chief Press Secretary, Hope Obeten, said the late Ogar was born July 22, 1948, and that the details of his burial will be made public once the family confirms to the House.

The late Speaker obtained his doctorate degree (Ph.D.) in Regional Planning at the prestigious University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, United States of America, and until his death, he was a consultant to many universities across the country on regional planning and environmental studies.
