The Director-General of the Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies, MINILS, Comrade Issa Aremu, has described the ongoing industrial action by the National Association of Resident Doctors, NARD, as an abuse of strike as a weapon, saying the development may be due to lack of knowledge on both parties that ought to resolve the issues at a roundtable.

Aremu disclosed this during capacity training for workers of various agencies on strategic planning for high and sustainable performance in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.

He noted that in a sane clime, the strike is basically meant to prove a point to the authorities to show that there is a need for urgent negotiation between the government and the affected unions without allowing it to drag for too long.

He, however, maintained that there is a need for both parties to resume negotiations in order to find a lasting solution to the incessant industrial actions hinting that the MINILS will also complement the Federal government’s efforts through capacity training on labour relations for all the workers in all sectors.

The identified gap between NARD and the Federal Government must be addressed to reach a compromise to avert further suffering of the masses.
