Botswana unveils 1174-Carat-Gold Diamond in Gaborone

An exquisite large and white 1,174-carat gold diamond has been discovered in Botswana superseding another huge precious stone that was unearthed in the African country in the month of June.

The latest discovery, which covers the palm of the hand was unearthed on the 12th of June and it was discovered by the Canadian Diamond firm Lucara and was presented to the country’s cabinet on Wednesday in Gaborone.

“This has made history for us and the whole of Botswana, the diamond ranks third among the world’s highest gemstones.

The Botswanan firm Debswana reported that it just discovered the third largest stone in the world and the stone weighs 1,098 carats. Botswana is leading the world when it comes to precious stones and they have accumulated six in the top 10 list. They are leading in diamond production.

The biggest diamond that was ever unearthed was 3,106-carat Cullinan and it was found in South Africa in the year 1905. Parts of that diamond are used to adorn the British crown jewels.

The president of Botswana, Mokgweetsi Masisi, Wednesday welcomed the “riveting moment “on Wednesday and applauded the frequency at which diamonds were discovered in his country.
