Yesterday, Thursday 14th of May, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control NCDC released new worrisome information about the COVID-19 virus. The total number of The virus in the country has a past 5,000 threshold with 5,162 cases confirmed.
Yesterday, 193 new cases were confirmed by the NCDC, the highest being in Lagos with 58 confirmed cases and Kano with the second highest at 46 confirmed cases. The Lagos State government has retracted their earlier statement about the Dubai returnee who passed away saying that the cause of death was not due to the COVID 19 virus.
Professor Akin Abayomi, Lagos State Commissioner for Health, said yesterday, that they wrongly assumed the returnee’s cause of death was the COVID 19 virus without looking into his multiple pre-existing health conditions.
Also, on the 14th of May, the Jigawa state government disclosed that 28 more cases of the COVID 19 virus have been confirmed among the Almajiris. Abba Zakari, the state’s task force chairman on COVID 19 disclosed that the state has confirmed 51 cases of the virus in two days, 31 of those confirmed cases are Almajiris. Jigawa now has confirmed a total of 169 cases of the COVID 19 virus and recorded a total of 3 deaths.
Umar Umar, the Emir of Daura, a town and Local Government Area in Katsina state, has recovered from the COVID 19 virus after he was hospitalized last week. The president, Muhammadu Buhari, who is also a native of Daura congratulated the Emir on his recovery and he was pleased that the Emir was back in good health.
Bello Matawalle, the Governor of Zamfara state, announced that the ban on churches and mosques congregational prayer to curb the spread of the COVID 19 virus has been lifted within the state. The governor made this announcement yesterday and also commended the state residents for complying with the lockdown measures and the ban to help curb the spread of the COVID 19 virus.
Matawalle said that the markets in the state would remain closed until further notice. 73 cases of the COVID 19 virus has been confirmed in Zamfara state with five deaths recorded.
Willie Obiano, the Governor of Anambra state, confirmed a new case of the COVID 19 virus in the state yesterday. The Governor disclosed that the new case was from someone who returned from Kano state after a short business trip on the 6th of May.
The government has announced that they would endeavour to tighten the security on the state’s borders to prevent more infected people from sneaking back into the state, and the state was aggressively seeking all the contacts the infected person made since he returned in order to prevent a widespread outbreak of the virus within the state.
Abdullahi Ganduje, the Governor of Kano state has, however, just inaugurated a female-only isolation centre in Kano state.
