Zamfara Assembly passes resolution to investigate alleged diversion of funds

The Zamfara State House of Assembly has passed a resolution to investigate the alleged diversion of funds meant for primary health centres to a different account of a different health agency in the state.

This was in a motion raised as a matter of urgent public importance before the floor by the House Leader, Honourable Faruk Dosara.

Dosara said the money was released by the National Health Intervention Agency known as the National Basic Health Care Provision Fund, to augment the urgent health care needs of the primary health centres of the country and Zamfara State in particular.

The House leader further explained that each primary health centre in the state will benefit total cash of N610,000 for the provision of common drugs and some consumables, in each Primary Health Centre.

It was alleged that the sum of N500,000 was cornered to a different account, domiciled in Drugs And Consumables Management Agency, while each Primary Health Centre was left with only N110,000.

He, thereafter, drew the attention of his colleagues, to as a matter of urgency, and in the spirit of fairness, to quickly investigate the matter thoroughly, to unravel the real truth behind the whole saga.

Dosara also maintained that, when fully investigated, he thinks that the monumental fraud was committed in the Primary Health Care Management Board of the state, and investigation of fraud, as well as recovery of looted money, back to the coffers of the state government, is part of the House’s primary responsibility.

The Speaker of the Assembly, Right Honourable Nasiru Mu’azu, saluted the courage of the House Leader, for raising the fundamental issue, and allow members to freely deliberated on the floor of the chamber.

After series of contributions from members on the alleged diversion of the public funds, the Speaker, Mu’azu, mandated the House Committee on Health and Human Medicine, under the Chairmanship of Honourable Abdulnasir Gayari, to fully investigate the matter, and submit its findings to the House, next month.
