To engender meaningful development within communities in Bayelsa State, Governor Douye Diri has called for an amicable resolution of conflicts to avoid the destruction of life and property.
Speaking when he received a report of the committee on the Peremabiri community crisis in Yenagoa, the Governor said for the purpose of peaceful coexistence, disagreements must be settled in the spirit of brotherhood.
Peremabiri community on December 2020 had witnessed two different invasions, leading to the destruction of property and displacement of indigenes.
To calm troubled waters in the crisis-ridden Southern Ijaw Council Area community, Governor Diri had inaugurated a bipartisan peace and security committee in January 2021.
Five months later, members of the committee are before the state’s cabinet members to report their findings and make recommendations.
Governor Diri regretted the negative effects of the crisis on both indigenes and the natural resources of the area. He promised a holistic approach to implementing the report.
Diri pledged that under his watch, the government will ensure that brewing crises were averted in the various communities.
