Serena Williams confirms French Open

Following her exit from the US Open semi-finals, 23 grand slam single’s champions Serena Williams has confirmed that she will take part in the upcoming French Open at the end of the month.

The champion who turns 39 later this month will have two weeks to resume her pursuit of a record-equalling 24th Grand Slam title on the clay-courts at the Roland Garros.

Serena has remained a grand slam short of Australian great Margaret Court’s 24th, since winning her 23rd Grand Slam singles trophy at the Australian Open in 2017.

The 38-year-old who has lost four of the last seven Grand Slam finals since returning to court in 2018 following the birth of her daughter fell short in the battle of the Mums to Victoria Azarenka with a 1-6 6-3 6-3 defeat at the Arthur Ash Stadium.

Williams who has only won three French open, and the last in 2015, will be looking to add a fourth French title when she travels to France at the end of the month.

The French Open has been scheduled to kick off on September 27 at the Stade Roland Garros in the country’s capital.
