UPDATE: Gunmen abduct 2 lecturers, eight students in Zaria

Two lecturers and eight students of Nuhu Bamali Polytechnic in Zaria, Kaduna State, have been abducted by kidnappers in the early hours of Thursday.

Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, confirmed this to reporters in Zaria.

This is the third time that gunmen are attacking tertiary institutions in Kaduna State.

The latest of these attacks is the Nuhu Bamali Polytechnic, Zaria, a school situated 43 kilometers from Kaduna metropolis.

According to an eyewitness, the gunmen unleashed terror on the school in the early hours of Thursday and succeeded in abducting two lecturers and some students.

It was torrent of tears in the school, as an HND II student of statistics was killed during the attack.

The Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs said eight students have been kidnapped.

For now, nothing has been heard from the abductors. There is no doubt that tertiary institutions are now targets in Kaduna.

The attack on Nuhu Bamali Polytechnic Zaria is coming at a time when Directors of State Services from the North-West are meeting to find a solution to banditry in the zone.
