Uhuru Kenyatta fires KEMSA Board of Directors in HIV Drug Scandal

The entire board members of Kenya’s Medical Supplies Authority have been fired after a scandal that involved the supply of 24000 does of HIV drugs that led to adverse effects in patients.

The same parastatal was also directly linked with the hoarding of over 200,000 anti-retroviral drugs held in warehouses for four months after it was donated by the United States.

Last year as well, the body was also implicated for the misuse of millions budgeted to buy coronavirus supplies. A new board has been constituted and the President who fired the exiting board members hopes that a 3-year tenure will help foster transparency and public trust in the organization.
