The National Agency for Food and Drug and Administration Control has revealed that available statistics show an expansion of the market for Tramadol in Nigeria.

According to the agency, improved cooperation between regulatory and enforcement agencies has led to the seizure of large quantities of unregistered pharmaceutical products being imported into the country.

Speaking today in the University of Benin, at the Problems of Drug/Substance Abuse seminar, the Director-General of NAFDAC, Prof. Moji Adeyeye stated that collaboration and information sharing between agencies culminated in the seizure of a large amount of tramadol at the Onne port.

Prof. Adeyeye further appealed for tighter border control measures and the exclusion of all land borders including Onne and Tincan Island Ports as points of entry for prescription drugs.
