Following the eruption from Mount Nyiragongo in DR Congo, yesterday in Goma, a city home to at least 2 million persons, thousands of people have returned to find that they no longer have a place to call home.

The lava which spread slowly managed to claim 5 lives as of this writing but now many are without accommodation. The communications minister, Patrick Muyay had intimated that an emergency meeting is to be held to provide welfare and he further advised all to remain vigilant in case of a recurrence.

The houses in the Nyiragongo community were all consumed by the burning lava. Currently the displaced persons are being accomodated in schools and religious centres.

Mount Nyiragongo has been listed as one of the world’s most active volvanoes
