Schools in Kaduna must set up isolation centers before reopening

The Kaduna State government says schools in the state must set up isolation centres before it considers reopening.

The Commissioner for Education, Shehu Mohammed, said this at an education stakeholders’ meeting where said such a measure is necessary to stem the spread of COVID-19 in the state.

The second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic is affecting the reopening of schools across the nation.

Although the Federal Government had fixed 18th of January for schools to resume, the Kaduna state government is yet to decide on a date due to the rise in the number of cases of the COVID-19 in the state.

Worried by this situation, the education stakeholders’ meeting which drew participants from tertiary institutions as well as public and private schools in Kaduna is aimed at addressing the measures to be taken, before the schools reopen.

According to the Kaduna State Commissioner for Education, setting up isolation centres is key for resumption. Some of the stakeholders called for the gradual reopening of the schools.

The committee on schools reopening also suggested that a task force be created within the schools to ensure that the safety guidelines are strictly followed.
