ANC leads as polls close in South Africa's Elections

Cyril Ramaphosa, the president of South Africa who spearheads the African National Congress (ANC), promised supporters in a small Cape Town community a better life if they voted for the ruling party on November 1.

Ramaphosa’s campaign came to an end on Thursday at Mamre, near Atlantis, on the outskirts of Johannesburg. Initially, only a few supporters and neighbors greeted him, but as word of Ramaphosa’s visit spread, hundreds of residents joined him on the streets.

Ramaphosa claimed that his party is capable of effecting change and that it was running “some of the best” ward candidates.

“We have experienced female candidates, as well as those who have vowed to fight for the community and tidy up our governments’ corruption,” he said.
