Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari, says the country will work closely with the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to achieve peace, unity, and stability within the East Africa region.

The President said this in Addis Ababa, Monday in his goodwill message to the people of the country during the second term inauguration ceremony of the ‘New Beginnings’ Government led by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.

He urged the Prime Minister and all warring parties in Ethiopia, particularly the Tigray region to work in the interest of unity, progress, and wellbeing of the country.

The Meskel Square in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, was the venue of the second term inauguration of the country’s Prime Minister.

Just before the ceremonial gathering, the Ethiopian parliament confirmed Abiy as the country’s Prime Minister for another five-year term at a sitting.

President Buhari was among several African leaders who attended the inauguration ceremony.

The President in his goodwill message said the peace and stability of Ethiopia are of concern to all African leaders. He said Nigeria will continue to support Ethiopia to strengthen its democracy.

Abiy Ahmed’s inauguration comes as a nearly year-long war in the northern region of Tigray spreads into other parts of the country.

The task before the Ethiopian Prime Minister is quite enormous, first to unite the country amidst the raging crisis in Tigray and ensure that he delivers the dividends of democracy to the people of Ethiopia in the next five years.
