Porto complete remarkable comeback against Roma with VAR help

The VAR was decisive as Portuguese outfit Porto, completed a remarkable comeback against Italian side Roma by winning 3-1 to move into the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League.

Trailing by a goal from the first leg, Porto took the lead through Francisco Soares close-range finish but were pegged back when Daniele de Rossi scored from the spot just before the interval.

Porto restored their lead on the night and levelled matters on aggregate when Moussa Marega got on the end of Jesus Corona’s cross for a 2-1 lead.

The match seemed destined for a penalty shoot-out until the 116th minute when Alessandro Florenzi tugged on Fernando’s shirt from the back as the ball fizzed across Roma’s goal.

Referee Cuneyt Cakir took a review of the play from the video monitor on the pitch-side and awarded a penalty, which Alex Telles stepped up and scored to give Porto a 3-1 win on the night that sent Roma out of the competition.
