Plateau State Governor directs security agencies to halt killings in Bassa villages

Following the directive given by the Plateau State Government ahead of the resumption of schools to ensure that public and private schools in the state do not exceed 20 students in a class on resumption, the State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, says it has deployed 2,537 trained teachers, Parents Teachers Association, and communities heads to handle the instructions on preventive measures on COVID-19 as part of schools guidelines, in the 17 local government areas of the state.

The SUBEB Executive Chairman, Prof. Matthew Sule, who disclosed this while speaking with reporters on Wednesday in Jos, said the teachers have been trained by experts and the training is still ongoing, hinting that the training would get teachers familiar with environmental safety guidelines.

According to Sule, the October re-opening of schools, which were shut in February, is to be done in strict compliance with the stated directives, warning that any school that breeches the protocol would be closed instantly.

He added that the SUBEB would be monitoring compliance with prescribed hygiene standards through a network of trained teachers, PTAs, and heads of communities of monitoring and evaluation teams across the state.
