George Floyd's assailant, Derek Chauvin begins Trial Today

Derek Chauvin, who was charged with the murder of George Floyd, has been released from a correctional facility after posting a $1 million bond.

The former Minneapolis police officer, who was sacked after the incident, was charged with second- and third-degree murder and manslaughter in the May 25 death of  Floyd, after he kneeled on his neck for nearly nine minutes.

To help Minneapolis law enforcement respond to potential civil unrest over the news of the release of the police officer, Governor Tim Walz activated the Minnesota National Guard on Wednesday.

The unarmed black man, Floyd, was killed during an arrest after a store clerk alleged he had passed a counterfeit $20 bill in Minneapolis.
