Nigeria’s main opposition, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has staged a protest outside of the National Assembly kicking vehemently against the nomination of the Senior Special Assistant on Social Media to President Muhammadu Buhari as a Federal Commissioner for the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

The party officials led by the National Chairman, Uche Secondus, stormed the main entrance of the National Assembly as early as 11 am on Wednesday.

Addressing journalists, Secondus called on the National Assembly to reject the nomination of Onochie.

He said in a crisis situation, what the party expects from President Muhammadu Buhari is to conduct a free and fair election.

He said Onochie is a card-carrying member of APC, a specialist in rigging and manipulation who will pollute all elections in the country in favour of her APC.

Also speaking, the Senate Minority Leader, Enyinnaya Abaribe said the PDP will submit its petition against the nomination of Onochie to the leadership of the Senate and a copy forwarded to the Chairman of the Senate Committee on INEC, headed by Senator, Kabri Gaya.

Abaribe is optimistic that justice will be served on the matter.

Buhari had in October 2020, written to the Senate; asking it to approve the nomination of Loretta Onochie.

Lawmakers mainly in the opposition had immediately kicked; asking the President to drop her name from the list.

When it seemed the noise had mellowed; Onochie’s name resurfaced on a new nomination list forwarded to the Senate eight months after; prompting a fresh round of protest by the main opposition party.
