The Ondo State Police Command says it is on the trail of unknown gunmen who invaded Asere, a riverine community in the Ese Odo Local Government Area of the state.
The attack by the gunmen left many houses and properties destroyed as residents of the community want the government to come to their aid.
Asere is one of the many riverine communities in the Ese Odo Local Government Area of Ondo state.
The major occupation of the people of the community is fishing. However, the community which has been enjoying relative peace was besieged by unknown gunmen four days ago.

Residents of the community alleged that the attack was carried out by a gang of ex-militants led by one Kutu Mone.
Confirming the incident, the Public Relations Officer of the Ondo State Police Command, Tee Leo- Ikoro, said the force has commenced an investigation into the matter, stressing that the perpetrators of the act will be brought to book.
It is hoped that the police authority in the state will match their words with action by bringing the culprits to justice.
