For about two hours, the taekwondo semi-final match between Edo and Bayelsa states in the -49kg female category in the ongoing 20th National Sports Festival was put on hold because the coach of the Edo taekwondo team invaded the pitch, protesting against the alleged deduction of points from his player.

His attitude got the officials of the game angry and they immediately left the arena. After several hours of pleading, they returned to the pitch for the continuation of the match which saw the Edo female player proceeded to the final but lost out to her Delta state counterpart.

In the male category +87 kg heavyweight fight, Benjamin Okuomose, from Edo state won the gold medal, Benjamin had a walkover in the semi-final against Anambra and also had a walkover in the final against his counterpart from Plateau, while Dennis Ifeoma from Plateau won the gold medal in the +73kg female category.
