Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, has called on the Federal Government to develop the permanent site of the Nigeria Maritime University, NMU, Okerenkoko, in Warri South Council Area so as to enable the institution to deliver its core mandate of imparting sound maritime-related education to its students.

Governor Okowa, who made the call at the Government House, Asaba, when he received the Chairman and members of Governing Council of the university in his office, said the Federal Government by doing so, would put the university on a sound footing.

The Governor said he was excited seeing the institution took off academic activities at their temporary site but would love it most if the Federal Government will make resources available for the construction of buildings and provision of amenities that would enhance academic activities in the university.

He said his government would do everything humanly possible to make the institution stand out noting that the establishment of the special educational institution for the training of manpower in the maritime sector has strengthened peace and the economy of the riverine communities.

Governor Okowa said having met other things promised, he will as quick as possible redeem the 100 million Naira grant promise made to the university.

The Pro-Chancellor of the Nigeria Maritime University, Okerenkoko, Elias Courson, thanked Governor Okowa for his moral and financial support towards the takeoff of the university and now.
