Obaseki, Ize-yamu Sign Peace pact

Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, who is the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state’s governorship election and his main challenger, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, have joined the 12 other candidates to sign a peace pact for a violence-free poll.

The signing ceremony, midwived by the National Peace Committee, was chaired by a former military Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar.

The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, represented by a Deputy Inspector-General, Adele Oyebanji, assured the electorate of adequate security before, during, and after the election, while the Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, who was represented by the Esogban of Benin, David Edebiri, also exhorted the political actors to give peace a chance in the election.

The Chairmen of the 14 political parties contesting the governorship election had appended their signatures to the peace pact, alongside the candidates.

Governor Obaseki of the PDP and Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the All Progressives Congress hugged each other upon signing the document.
