NIMC staff embark on indefinite strike

Following the directives by the Nigerian Communication Commission, NCC, for all network providers to block all SIM cards without the National Identification Numbers, NIN, in two weeks, several Nigerians have taken to different platforms to express their unbelief.

Many suggested that the plan was of course not achievable as it simply wasn’t possible to register 153 million mobile subscribers’ identification numbers within the space of two weeks, especially at yuletide.

Some who visited the NIMC office in Ikoyi relayed that as of 9:30 this morning, the crowd there was almost astronomical.

Moreover, there are no digital channels to fast track the process, if anything, the nimc.gov.ng website has a server error as of the time of this writing, making the pre-enrollment process a daunting process indeed.

The directive is in line with the Federal Government’s guidelines for mandatory national identification number enrolment.

The statement issued by the Director, Public Affairs of the NCC regretted all inconveniences occasioned by the directives.
