The Nigerian Governor’s Forum has disclosed that the attempt on Samuel Ortom was one of a rude awakening of how bad the insecurity in the nation has evolved into.
The Benue State Governor was attacked by alleged bandits who attempted to claim his life along the Tyo Mu, Markurdi-Gboko Road on his way to his farm in Makurdi. The governor had in the past very vocal about his criticism of open grazing by herders.
The Governor claimed to have run for his dear life and was saved by a breath of an inch. The Inspector-General of Police has now ordered an unreserved investigation into the attack that almost cost Gov. Ortom his life.
Gov. Ortom has disclosed plans to write a petition against the MACBAN leadership. Read his statements below
“They came out to target me and behind the scene they are planning to eliminate me on my own land. If I can’t go to the farm as governor, with the entire security around me, then who else can go to farm? You can imagine the pains that we have here in Benue State.
“I appreciate the security personnel attached to me; they were able to repel them and they could not have access to me,” Mr Ortom stated.
