Communities at the risk of being affected by the flood have been advised to evacuate and seek alternatives.

This is part of measures being put by the Niger State Government to ensure minimum flood incidents, especially in communities by the river banks.

The Nigeria Meteorological Agency had predicted that Niger State would be among the states expected to experience intensive rainfall in August and September.

A statement by Ahmad Inga, the Director-General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency, said already, relevant Ministries, Departments, and Agencies have been mobilized for emergency evacuation and response.

The statement hinted that a joint community sensitization team, which includes stakeholders, traditional institutions, the Ministries of Health, Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Community Development, Agriculture as well as the National Orientation Agency and the Niger State Environmental Protection Agency, are sensitizing communities on the dangers of flood and the negative implications on the people.

Safer grounds for the people have been identified, where they will be evacuated to when the need arises.
