Norwegian lawmakers have nominated Russian political dissident, Alexei Navalny; Greta Thunberg and the World Health Organization for this year’s Nobel Peace Prize, the nominations which close today do not translate to an automatic endorsement.
While the WHO was nominated for its COVAX programme which hopes to see poorer countries fair access to the coronavirus vaccines, Thunberg was nominated for the Fridays for Future campaigning group in her continued fight against climate change; Navalny was reportedly nominated for his efforts towards a peaceful democratisation of Russia.
Other nominations include Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, Maria Kolesnikova, Jette Christensen among other notable individuals.
The winner will be announced in October, later this year.
