Civil Society Organizations in the country have accused the federal government and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of illegally administering funds and assets of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
Speaking at a press briefing on Wednesday, Head, Directorate of Research, Strategy & Programmes of Act for Positive Transformation Initiatives, APTI, Kolawole Johnson, said the government took advantage of the campaign to engage in systemic feasting on NDDC’s resources.
On the anti-corruption mantra of the federal government, he said the coalition of civil society organizations working with the A.P.T.I. launched a campaign for probity and accountability on the NDDC in 2020.
According to Johnson, this illegality by the federal government through the EFCC in daily shortchanging the Commission and the people of the Niger Delta region has been ongoing since 2020.
Kolawole Johnson says, APTI is demanding the immediate discontinuance of demand for the 3% of the total annual budget of the oil-producing companies operating onshore and offshore in the Niger Delta, including the gas-producing companies.
