Ministry of Science and Education blames Budget Allocation for poor Performance

The House of Representatives Committee on Science and Technology has frowned at the refusal of the Ministers of Finance, Zainab Ahmed and the Director-General Budget Office, Ben Akabueze to appear before it to defend low remittance to the ministry of science and technology.

They say their refusal to appear before the committee only justifies the belief that they are responsible for the dismal performance of the 2020 budget and other budgets before it.

This year, the sum of ₦87.35 Billion was allocated to the Ministry of Science and Technology. The Federal Ministry of Science and Technology accounts as one of the top recurrent and capital allocations in the 2020 Budget but falls in the 12th position for both in terms of importance based on allocations to it.

Experts have disclosed that Science and Technology is very critical to the overall development of the nation and the allocations to the Ministry show that not enough importance has been attached to the Ministry.
