Lady Gaga drops the veil on her emotional struggle with getting raped at 19

Lady Gaga spoke through tears during an appearance on The Me You Can’t See docuseries which debuts today on Apple TV+ while detailing how she was raped by a music producer when she was 19 years and dropped off pregnant by the roadside.

“I was 19 years old and I was working in the business and a producer said to me, ‘Take your clothes off,” Gaga remembers. “I said no, and I left, and they told me they were gonna burn all my music. And they didn’t stop… they didn’t stop asking me and I just froze and I just… I don’t even remember. She said “the person who raped me dropped me off pregnant on a corner”.

Lady Gaga while recounting her ordeal disclosed that she suffered from trauma many years after the incident and even tried to harm herself afterwards. Gaga disclosed that she would never name the said producer as she would never want to face her abuser again.

“I understand this #MeToo movement, I understand that some people feel really comfortable with this, and I do not,” she continued. “I do not ever want to face that person again. This system is so abusive, it’s so dangerous.”

She shared how she experienced extreme paranoia and cancelled many world tour schedules and even experienced a psychotic break down several years afterwards due to that incident. Gaga said it took her two and a half years to recover from that incident but she occasionally has lapses when triggered by intense emotions.

The Me You Can’t See series was co-created by Oprah Winfrey and Prince Harry.
