Kogi Govt. To Increase Budget Above 20%, Establishes GYB Science Model Schools

Kogi State government says its annual budget for education which currently stands at 20 per cent would be greatly improved to provide funding in addressing the critical educational needs of the state.

Briefing Government House reporters after the State Executive Council meeting in Lokoja, Commissioner of Education, Science and Technology, Wemi Jones, also hinted that the council has granted approval for the constriction of some educational infrastructures.

With the massive investment, it has done in the security sector which is yielding results in all sectors of the economy, Commissioner for Education said the Governor, Yahaya Bello, is bent on making education attractive with plans to increase its budget above 20 per cent come 2022.

According to Jones, the Kogi State government is also going into serious investment in science education with the establishment of GYB Science Model Schools across the state.

Briefings were also received from the Commissioner for Works and Housing, Abubakar Ohere, and his Information counterpart, Kingsley Fanwo, on the current state of ongoing infrastructure projects in parts of the state

Approval of over 100 million naira has also been granted for the purchase and installation of solar-powered street lights for the recently completed Kabba township roads, just as the council hinted that employment of teachers would soon commence filling vacant positions in its 284 secondary schools.
