Equatorial Guinea has been disqualified from the 2018 African Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) following an appeal by Kenya after the West African team fielded ineligible players in their qualification tie.
The Harambee Starlets had lost 3-2 on aggregate during the final qualifying rounds to Equatorial Guinea but lodged an appeal over the eligibility of six Equatorial Guinean players that played in the qualifier
Alongside their disqualification, Equatorial Guinea’s FA has been fined $10,000. This will be the second appearance of Kenya’s National women’s team (Harambee Starlets) at the AWCON after their debut at the 2016 edition.
