Kenya unveils first Underwater Museum in Africa

Kenya has become home to the first underwater museum on the continent. The tourist attraction in its late completion stages is located in Kilifi county in the East African country and will allow for scuba tourists to explore remains from ships lying at the Indian Ocean floor in excess than 600 years.

Subject matter experts have revealed that the museum will house the Portuguese and Arabic shipwrecks, display iron marking, and concrete artifacts that bring the ancient East African Culture back to life.

The site has been reputed to boast of the rarest marine ecosystems across the globe, submerged artworks, and the slave trade repertoire of Eastern Africa. It is indeed a striking achievement considering there are only 11 existing underwater museums and most of them are sited in North America and in Asia.

At the moment, between 90,000 -200,000 tourists are expected to visit the site on a yearly basis.
