Following the strike and protest embarked upon by tricycle riders in Kano State over the imposition of the daily 100 Naira levy, the Managing Director of Kano Road Traffic Agency, KAROTA, Baffa Dan Agundi, has called for the ban of commercial tricycles in the state.

The ban, according to the Managing Director, will ease traffic congestion and the incessant attacks on innocent commuters in the state.

Tricycle riders in the state had protested against the imposition of a daily 100 Naira levy by the state government, leading to attacks on members of the Kano Road Traffic Agency, with some injured.

The leaders of the tricycle riders said some of their members took the law into their hands to cause public disturbances. They called on the members to be law-abiding and pay the daily levy since an agreement has already been reached.

The Managing Director of Kano Road Traffic Agency said the daily levy is by the constitution of the state.

Dan Agundi blamed the incessant attacks on commuters and traffic congestion in the state on the commercial tricycle.

He, therefore, called for their ban.

Commuters in the state are already appealing to both parties to reach an agreement, as a popular saying goes when two elephants fight, it is the grass that suffers.
