IYC Shutdown NDDC Yenagoa Office, Demands Peter Igbifa’s Release

Release our National President, Peter Igbif, unconditionally and set up a substansive Board to manage the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, were the key two messages sent to President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednessday morning when a section of the Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, shutdown the office of the NDDC in Yenagoa and blocked the Mbiama Axis of the East west road.

Some of the members of the Ijaw Youth apex body who spoke to reporters said they will not compromise their united resolve and agitation for efficient management of the interventionist agency established to develop the rich Niger Delta region.

The reported news of the kidnapped of the National President of the IYC, Peter Igbifa, filtered into Yenagoa Municipality on Tuesday evening when the IYC was already mobilizing members to achieve its target to shut down down the Niger Delta Development Commission over delay to set up a substantive board for the Commission.

At the dawn of the day, the IYC shut down the office of the NDDC in Yenagoa before proceeding to the Mbiama axis of the East-West road for a demonstration.

In a rowdy atmosphere of agitation, where travellers were stranded, vehicular movement crippled for hours, various unfolding story peddling around Peter Igbifa’s kidnap was also discussed.

The group vowed to continue on their agitations until their demands are met.
